Who are we? |
We’re a group
of professionally minded people establishing a dynamic, flexible, and
focussed way to serve the community through the Lions network. The Business
Breakfast Initiative is being run under the banner of the Lions Club of
Canberra Valley. A Focus Group has been established to set the initial
direction.
|
|
What’s our
vision? |
We’re creating a
Lions Club that mobilises the good will of the business sector for the
benefit of the community. We’ll achieve this through leading and
facilitating targeted projects and drawing upon an expanding network of
professional skills and experience.
Our proposed
areas of activity are driven by the preferences of our members. At this
stage we are developing projects or initiatives that will support:
-
Youth
-
Aged
-
Environment
-
Refugees
In
particular, the “Work Ready” Project for youth is already taking shape and
likely to see some positive outcomes in the next few months.
|
|
How do we
work? |
Our group
recognises the growing demands on people’s time and is deliberately
organising itself to retain a highly flexible approach to meetings and
communication, while upholding the principles and ethics of the Lions Club.
We run a monthly breakfast meeting limited to one hour, with informal
interaction as needed between meetings to progress promotional activities
and projects. |
Initiatives - The Work Ready Program
|
|
|
What's the objective? |
The Work
Ready Project is an initiative designed to assist young people entering the
workforce for the first time to develop personal skills that will better
prepare them for the workplace. This may include interview skills, personal
presentation, workplace awareness, OH&S etc.
|
|
|
|
How does it work? |
The Student
to Industry Program (SIP) is an initiative that links local businesses with
government and non-government school students throughout ACT and the region.
A key focus of the program is structured workplace training this includes
the 1 week Vocational Placements or the School Based New Apprenticeships (SNAPs)
programs.
|
|
What are the next steps? |
The next
steps involve development of a short booklet as a training aid, and
coordination of one or two forums before the end of the year. As second
phase may involve sourcing the direct involvement of employer organisations
as part of these forums.
|
|
Who's involved? |
The project
is being coordinated by Michael Doyle of SIP, with the support of the
Business Breakfast Initiative team.
|
|
What’s been done? |
Four Work
Ready sessions have been conducted. Many candidates have been placed. We’d
like to think the Work Ready Program has contributed to the successful
placement of our candidates. |
IN APPRECIATION

In
recognition of the contribution of the Lions Clubs of Turkey, especially Lion
Dr. Enzar Tore, in providing free web page hosting for Lions Clubs everywhere,
the Lions Club of CANBERRA LAKE BURLEY GRIFFIN. proudly displays
the flag of Turkey on our site.
Click on the flag to go to the web site of Lion Dr. Enzar's home club - the
Lions Club of Canakkale.

As an extension to the
Turkish Lions' contribution, the Brisbane Ekibin Lions Club of MD 201 Q1
(Australia) offer assistance to Lions Clubs who want to take advantage of the
Turkish Lions offer, but are not familiar with web publishing. They've already
set up many sites for Lions Clubs world-wide, using Lionwap.
If your club wants to be on the internet, and would like some help, leave a
message in the Ekibin Guest Book by clicking on the image above. This is a FREE
SERVICE, so you don't spend a cent for their work. As Lionwap is also FREE, this
means you get a web site that you NEVER have to pay for. - Is that a deal or
what?
All your Club has to do it have some-one update and maintain your page, which
needs not take more than a few minutes each month. The Ekibin Lions will even
give you some tips on that!
